Dear Aladdin's Eatery,
It's really nice that you have a huge-ass vegetarian selection. I mean that.
I was really excited about going to your restaurant even more once I became a vegan.
Then I e-mailed and asked about your pita bread. I was informed that it contains dairy.
That made me sad, because it effectively put about 90% of your "vegetarian" menu off-limits.
Still, I persevered. To avoid eating your pita bread, I ordered a salad.
Upon learning that the salad was served with pita, I asked if I could substitute something else, and was flatly denied.
(That was awesome, by the way.)
So then I just asked (three times) that no pita bread be served with my salad, explaining to the (slowish) employee that I could not eat dairy.
Upon cracking open my styrofoam box, I discovered that the "tahini dressing" that is served with the salad is yogurt tahini dressing. (Send my thanks, by the way, to your (slowish) employee for helping a girl out on that one.)
I'm finding less and less reason to keep visiting.
I realize that vegans are a marginal percentage of your business, and you have no responsibility to cater to them. But pita with milk? Really? Even though your menu goes on and on about the benefits of eating a diet "free of animal products"?! Are you just referring to the lamb shanks you can throw on for a nominal charge? WTF, flying carpet people.
You are like a nice visit to grandma's house. Right after grandma's funeral, when the kids start fighting over who gets the china cabinet.
Sincerely,
dorklepork
P.S. Thanks for getting back to me with your nutritional information chart. Now could you please explain to me how you can put cute little "vegan" hearts next to any of your Pita Pockets, Pita Rolls, or Pita Pitzas, when YOUR PITA BREAD IS NOT VEGAN? Thanks so much! Cheers!
